How to See Your Turnitin AI Report as a Student
If you have looked for your Turnitin AI score and found only a similarity percentage, you are not missing a button. In most institutions the AI writing report is visible to instructors only. Here is why, what your instructor sees, and the ways a student can actually see an AI report.
Quick answer: how to see your Turnitin AI score as a student
Through your course, you usually cannot: the AI percentage is shown to instructors only. To see your AI score or AI percentage yourself, ask your instructor to show you the report after marking, or check your paper before you submit with a service that returns the full Turnitin AI writing report.
Why students cannot see the Turnitin AI score
Turnitin built AI writing detection as a tool for educators. When your institution enables it, the AI indicator appears in your instructor's view of the submission, next to the similarity score. In the standard student view of Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard and Brightspace, it does not appear at all. That is a design choice, not a setting you can change.
What your instructor sees that you do not
| Item | Instructor | Student (usual setup) |
|---|---|---|
| Similarity score and report | Yes | Only if released |
| AI writing percentage | Yes, where enabled | No |
| Highlighted AI sentences | Yes | No |
| Detection groups (AI-generated, AI-paraphrased) | Yes | No |
Three ways a student can see an AI report
1. Ask your instructor
If your work is questioned, you can ask to see the AI report and the flagged passages. Many instructors will walk through it with you. This only happens after submission.
2. Check your institution's policy
Some institutions have switched AI detection off entirely. If yours has, there is no AI report to see. Our country guides cover several, for example the Canada and South Africa pages.
3. Get your own AI report before submitting
A pre-submission check returns the full Turnitin AI writing report to you directly: the percentage, the detection groups and every highlighted sentence. You see exactly what your instructor would see, and you can revise before it counts.

What to do with your AI report
- *% (1 to 19%): no highlights are shown and the score is considered less reliable. Usually no action needed.
- 20% and above: read every highlighted sentence. Rewrite generic passages with your own analysis, examples and voice.
- Keep evidence: drafts, notes and version history help if you are asked how you wrote the paper.

AI score too high? Humanize it to 0%
If your Turnitin AI writing report flags your paper, you can rewrite the highlighted sentences yourself, use a humanizer, or let our editors do it by hand. Since August 2025 Turnitin also detects text run through AI humanizer tools, so check which approach still works: best AI humanizer for Turnitin, can Turnitin detect humanizers? and how to get 0% AI on Turnitin.
