How to See and View Your Turnitin Report (Every Platform)

How-to guidesBy the AIandSimilarityReports.com team6 min read

Your Turnitin report is not stored in one central place. It lives inside the assignment you submitted to, so how you see it depends on whether your course runs on Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Brightspace or turnitin.com directly. Here is how to view your Turnitin report on each one, and what to do when it will not open.

Quick answer

Open the assignment you submitted to, find the similarity percentage or coloured icon beside your file, and click it. The report opens in Turnitin's viewer in a new tab. If you see no percentage, your instructor has either hidden reports from students or the report is still generating.

How to see your Turnitin report on each platform

Canvas

  1. Open Grades in your course, or open the assignment and click Submission Details.
  2. Click the coloured flag or percentage beside your submission.

Can you see your Turnitin AI report?

In most institutions, no. Turnitin built the AI writing report as an instructor tool, so students generally see the similarity score only. That is the main reason students order an independent check: it is the only way to see the AI percentage and the highlighted sentences before a marker does.

What you will see when the report opens

Whichever platform you use, the report opens with your overall similarity percentage, followed by sources and your paper with matches highlighted in colour. Here is a complete example of both reports so you know what to expect.

What you will see: sample Turnitin reports

Both screenshots below come from the same 24-page, 6,364-word paper. The similarity report found 1% overall similarity. The AI writing report flagged 51% of the qualifying text as likely AI-generated. Tap either one to see it full size.

What is the Turnitin document viewer?

The document viewer is the page that opens when you click your score. It shows your paper on the left with coloured highlights and a panel on the right. In Feedback Studio the panel has layers: the similarity layer (Match Overview and sources) and the instructor feedback layer (comments, QuickMarks, rubric). In the newer report view it shows match groups and sources. See what Match Overview means and how to see Turnitin comments.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I see my Turnitin report?

The three usual reasons: your instructor has not enabled student viewing, the report is still processing, or the report is set to appear only after the due date.

Can students see the Turnitin AI score?

Usually not. In most institutions the AI writing report is visible to instructors only, so students see the similarity score but not the AI percentage.

How do I check my Turnitin report before submitting?

If your course has no draft assignment, you can run your paper through an independent checking service that returns the same similarity and AI report format before your final submission.
