How to See and View Your Turnitin Report on Canvas
On Canvas, your Turnitin report is attached to your submission, not to a separate Turnitin page. There are two quick ways to open it: through the Grades page or through Submission Details. Both take under a minute.
Method 1: Through Grades
- Open your course in Canvas.
- Click Grades in the course navigation.
- Find the assignment in your list of graded items.
- Click the coloured flag or percentage beside it. The similarity report opens in Turnitin in a new tab.
Method 2: Through the assignment's Submission Details
- Open the assignment you submitted to.
- On the right, under Submission, click Submission Details.
- Click the coloured flag or percentage next to your file.
Reading the Canvas Turnitin flag colours
The flag colour reflects your similarity score: blue 0%, green 1 to 24%, yellow 25 to 49%, orange 50 to 74% and red 75 to 100%. Grey means the report is still pending. Full guide: Canvas originality report colours and flags.
Canvas Turnitin report not showing? Fixes
- No flag at all. The assignment may not be connected to Turnitin, or your instructor has set reports to be hidden from students. Only they can change that.
- A clock or "pending" symbol. The report is still processing. See how long a Turnitin report takes.
- Error icon. The file may be too short, too long, password protected or in an unsupported format. Resubmit a .docx or .pdf if resubmissions are allowed.
- The new tab is blank. Allow pop-ups and third-party cookies for your Canvas domain and for turnitin.com, then try again.
- Using the Canvas app. The mobile app sometimes cannot open the report. Use a browser instead.
Can I see my AI score on Canvas?
Usually not. The Turnitin AI writing indicator is normally visible to instructors only. You may see a similarity percentage and nothing else, even if your instructor sees an AI percentage on the same submission. If you want to know your AI score before submitting, get an independent check that returns the full AI writing report.
