How to Submit to Turnitin and Get Your Report

How-to guidesBy the AIandSimilarityReports.com team5 min read

Submitting to Turnitin is part of uploading your assignment. There is no separate Turnitin step: you upload to a Turnitin-enabled assignment and the check runs automatically. Here is how on each platform, plus how to submit a Turnitin report alongside your work when you are asked to.

Before you submit

  • One file only. Combine everything into a single document.
  • Use .docx or .pdf. Avoid Apple Pages, .docm and scanned PDFs.
  • Remove any password protection.
  • Check the word count: at least 20 words for a similarity report, 300 or more for an AI report.

How to submit to Turnitin on each platform

Canvas

  1. Open the assignment and click Start Assignment or Submit Assignment.
  2. Upload your file, tick any pledge box, and click Submit Assignment.

Moodle

  1. Open the assignment and click Add submission.
  2. Upload your file, accept the declaration if shown, and click Save changes, then Submit assignment if required.

Blackboard

  1. Open the assignment link, attach your file and click Submit.

Brightspace (D2L)

  1. Open Assignments, click the assignment, click Add a File, upload, then click Submit.

turnitin.com

  1. Open your class, click Upload Submission beside the assignment, choose your file and confirm.

After submitting, download your digital receipt. It holds your submission ID, which proves what you submitted and when.

How to submit a Turnitin report with your work

Some supervisors, journals and programs ask for the report itself.

  1. Download your report as a PDF. See how to download a Turnitin report.
  2. If the portal allows several files, upload the report as a separate PDF.
  3. If it allows one file, attach the report as an appendix. See how to attach a Turnitin report to Word.
Never upload a file containing a Turnitin report to a Turnitin assignment. The report includes your full paper, so it will match itself and your score will jump.
