Turnitin Turkish AI Detection: Does Turnitin Detect AI in Turkish?
Yes, Turnitin now detects AI writing in Turkish. On 6 October 2026 Turnitin added AI writing detection for Turkish, German and Dutch, available through Turnitin Originality and as an add-on for iThenticate 2.0. A Turkish ödev, makale or tez can now get an AI percentage as well as a similarity (benzerlik) report. Here is what that means and how to check your work first.
What Turkish AI detection gives you
- An overall percentage of likely AI-generated text, in the same report as the similarity score.
- Highlighted sentences that the model considers likely AI-written.
- Automatic routing. Turkish submissions go to the Turkish model once your university switches it on.
- Two products. Turnitin Originality (used through Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard and others) and iThenticate 2.0 with the AI add-on, which many graduate institutes and journals use.
Turnitin's vice president for EMEA and APAC, James Thorley, said at launch: "We know there is no substitute for knowing a student's writing style and understanding institutional AI policies." In other words, the score is meant as an indicator for your examiner, not a verdict.
Turkish vs English: what your report includes
| Feature | Turkish | English |
|---|---|---|
| Similarity (benzerlik) report | Yes | Yes |
| AI writing percentage | Yes (since 6 Oct 2026) | Yes |
| AI-paraphrase detection | No | Yes |
| AI bypasser detection | No | Yes |
What this means for a tez
- Graduate institutes already ask for a similarity report with most master's and doctoral theses. Where Turnitin Originality or iThenticate with the AI add-on is used, an AI percentage can now appear on the same report.
- Length limit. The AI detector accepts up to 30,000 words per file. A full doctoral tez is often longer, so check it chapter by chapter.
- Older reports are not updated. A tez checked before 6 October 2026 had no Turkish AI score. A new upload will.
What can raise a Turkish AI score
- Text written in English with AI and machine-translated into Turkish.
- Literature review sections drafted with ChatGPT or Gemini and lightly edited.
- Very uniform, generic paragraphs with no specific data, sources or argument of your own.
Requirements
- At least 300 words of prose, up to 30,000 words per file.
- .docx, .pdf, .txt or .rtf, under 100 MB.
- Mostly in Turkish. Abstracts in English are normal, but long English chapters may affect the result.
